I have been thinking a lot about you and each of my friends and readers, wondering if there is something I can do to ease your way during these turbulent times.
I don't know exactly what is giving you sustenance and comfort at this time. So I thought I would share with you some tools of support that I am finding very, very helpful.
One is my ongoing mindfulness practice. This includes not only sitting meditation, but aspiring to be mindful and present throughout the day in whatever it is I am engaged in.
So I have been practicing cooking meditation, weeding meditation, walking meditation, dishwashing meditation - every moment of each day is an opportunity to be present in a way that brings much more equanimity than trying to speed through unpleasant activities and rush to the next pleasant. This practice fosters equanimity, and also make sitting meditation practice a bit easier to slip into as it is less of a contrast to being in rushing, wandering mind
all day long.
Come to think of it, as I write this, it occurs to me to put together an article to focus on just this idea. What do you think?
The other is cooking and baking for my family and neighbors.
To that end, in this message from me you will find links to two new blog posts:
1) The thirty guided meditation audios that I made as companions to The Mindful Vegan. You may already have these, especially if you have a copy of The Mindful Vegan and downloaded these gifts previously. But I want everyone to have access to them NOW, whether or not you own a copy of the book. You
will find them for download (at no charge, these have always been f*ree) here:
2) Two recipes for you that have become favorites for me. When we went through the trauma of the Camp fire not that long ago, I found one way I responded was to start baking bread and other goodies for neighbors and family. This is continuing during the current crisis and since I can't give you a loaf
of bread in person, at least I can give you this simple recipe. Both the recipe for Rustic Rosemary Artisan No-Knead Bread and Pumpkin Tart with Oat Crust are on the same page here.
It is my sincere wish that you and yours are in good health. I offer my caring concern that your struggles, whether financial or logistic or otherwise, are few, and that solutions present themselves so that you can live with greater ease.
We are all in this together. Thinking of you.
