Cover girl is not what I ever anticipated would be on my resume.
Yet mindfulness I know is always a lead story when it comes to healthy, happy vegan living.
So when the new ownership of VegWorld Magazine approached me about their upcoming mindfulness issue – the first issue of the new ownership – and asked yours truly to be lead feature with
their fresh look and content, there was no way I could say anything but yes.

I
have posted a little bit more about this on the blog here, including a tiny excerpt from the feature article inside the new magazine. I hope you will come by, take a look, and let me know what you think about all of it!
Last weekend's Chicago VeganMania event was all I had anticipated and more. Besides meeting up with friends and fellow authors such as Ellen Jaffe Jones, Miyoko Schinner, and Marla Rose, I had the distinct pleasure of sharing the stage with Dr. Kim Williams and Seth Tibbott, founder and brilliance behind Tofurky! I'll post a few pictures for you further down the page.
In other news, I am heading out for retreat soon. If we have been friends for awhile, you know
that I regularly engage in mindfulness meditation retreats to keep my practicing thriving, and to keep growing my skills and teacher and coach. This weekend, I am driving to one of my favorite spots for just such a venture, Spirit Rock Meditation Center in West Marin, California. It is a four night, 5 day silent retreat, so deeply instructive on many levels. And I am very happy that one of my favorite teachers is going to be one of the retreat leaders. Diana
Winston is head of the UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center, is the author of two books on mindfulness meditation and mindful living, and is featured in my book The Mindful Vegan. I have learned so much from her, and can't wait to dive in again. It does mean that if you write to me over the next few days, I will be unable to respond until I return later next week. These retreats are totally unplugged, and I wouldn't have it any other
way.
Lucky for all retreat attendees, the food and Spirit Rock is splendid. Mostly vegan, and they even have a 'simple foods' section on a separate table so if you want to eat free of seasonings, sauces, even gluten, you can
load up on brown rice, steamed veggies, plain beans and tofu there. Something for everyone!
Better get packing for tomorrow's long journey - but first, a bike ride on this beautiful northern California Fall day.
How are you doing? Let me know when
you get a chance. May your days be filled with ease and happiness,
Love,
