Hi ,
Happy New Year! Select what you like from today's newsletter, then click on over to find read my letter to Oprah or download the recipes in today's gift.
It has just come to my attention that Oprah recently released a new book titled Life-Changing Insights
from Super Soul Conversations Wisdom of Sundays. Her book was released on just about the same day as my new book The Mindful Vegan: A 30-Day Plan for Finding Health, Balance, Peace, and Happiness.
There were several reports in the media about the book launch brunch (guest list of 300 glitterati) to
celebrate the release of Oprah's book. In relation to book her release, Oprah was quoted as saying:
“Everything in this book comes from the spirit of what I’ve been trying to do here on the planet Earth since I recognized that I had a calling,” she said. “It’s sharing wisdom in a way that opens people up to the best of themselves, to the heart of
themselves, to a more purposeful life — a life that allows you to literally get woke and stay woke.”
As I read the description of the brunch, though there were 'vegan options', the menu predominantly revolved around fried chicken, a seafood
bar, and plenty of cheese. The dissonance between "getting woke and staying woke' and serving an animal-product heavy brunch menu prompted me to write to Oprah. I have published the letter on the blog here so that I could share it with you. I hope you will join in the conversation and thank
you for those who have already shared your thoughts on the blog and facebook

P.S. NPR called yet again! Host Nancy Wiegman is airing her annual 'books in review' this Wednesday, January 10, at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. The show is "Nancy's Bookshelf". She wrote to tell me that during the recording of this annual show, several minutes were devoted to praise of The Mindful Vegan. Needless to say, I can't wait to hear what they have to say and will report in after the show. If you'd like
to listen LIVE while the show airs, here's the link.
