10 questions, NPR called, and the Food and Mood Series

Published: Tue, 10/31/17

Hi ,

Happy Halloween and welcome to November!

My husband Greg and I have been immersing ourselves in every opportunity to get out and about in this gorgeous Fall weather before the rains kick in. Yesterday we took our mountain bikes up the road a way here in the foothills of the Sierras here in Northern Ca and ended up completing a 16 mile round trip bike/hike to the Butte Creek head dam.

I packed four sandwiches, a boatload of fruit and veggies, and baggies of my current fave energy snack - peanuts and golden raisins.  Which brings to mind this nugget of advice:

Remember to always have more quality food with you than you might need when out and about. It is the best way to stay free of cravings and obsessions around food and naturally trim.  Needless to say, Greg and I ate our way through the entire assortment, even though we did carry out two apples - perfect for eating in the car on the ride home.

On to new events!

Ten questions interview and book review at Vegan Street.  Recently, the team at Veganstreet.com interviewed yours truly for a feature article on their website.  I listed all of the questions on my blog here, yet you can jump straight to the full article at veganstreet and see all of my answers!  Here is a sample from the Q/A list for you:

  • Marla Rose: What do you mean when you say “mindfulness”?
  • MR: What are your first signs – physical or mental – that you are not being mindful?
  • MR: It seems to me like I hear so many people say that they “can’t meditate” like there is something uniquely wrong with them when, in fact, it is just so much about how our frenetic brains are wired that it feels alien at first and people give up. What do you say to someone who thinks she “can’t meditate”
  • MR: How can we practice the habits of mindfulness coexisting in the world as vegans? What occasions might arise that call for it? It seems to me that we could be better communicators of the vegan message if we’re less reactive and more mindful.
  • MR: I think it’s amazing that as part of the book, readers get access to your 30-days of guided meditations. It’s such a value added. What do you think makes your program different?
...and that's just for starters.  See the interview in its entirety here.

NPR called and I'll be on the local npr radio station, NSPR on Friday, November 3, at 10:00 a.m. PST.  You can listen in here to the very popular Nancy's Bookshelf program, where host Nancy Wiegman interviews me about The Mindful Vegan

The "Seven Hot New Books for Holiday Gifts" list over at My Vegan Journal.com, I am happy to announce, includes The Mindful VeganSee the entire list and short book reviews here

The Food Mood Project:  How to Make Peace with Food, Restore Your Moods, and Live a Vibrant Fuller Life is a new summit that gets underway Monday, November 6. My community friend, Kiran Ram is interviewing Victoria Moran, myself, and over 40 other acclaimed functional medicine doctors, nutrition practitioners, coaches, fitness trainers and authors..Sign up today for this no-cost event here.

Links to replays from events last week in case you missed them:

If you missed my interview on Chef Aj Facebook LIVE last week, here is the link to the video on Aj's you tube channel.  I also just put it up on my YouTube page here. The audio is a little patchy in some portions, but smooths out as the conversation progresses.

If you weren't able to tune into iHeart Radio on Friday, October 27, here is the link to the replay.  I was the second guest on the program, so you will hear our conversation about 25 - 30 minutes into the program. I really like Marianne's style and she adores The Mindful Vegan book, so we are a good match.

To a kinder, gentler world for all,

Love, Lani

P.S. Reminder that the 30 audio support tracks for The Mindful Vegan are live and ready for download. If you haven't already done so, all the instructions for navigating to them are in your copy of The Mindful Vegan book in Resources.
