a personal note from Lani                                          February 25, 2010

Hi ,

We have a saying around here.  Fail forward

And it works for fitness just like anything else.

I've a thought-provoking and inspiring video that drives this point home.  Read all about it in today's Feature Article.

There are a couple of new items on my plate that I'd like to tell you about - both slated for March beginnings!

For one, I'll be part of the team working the Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) 21 - Day Diet Kickstart beginning March 1.  We ran the same event in January and over 28,000 participated!  You'll find a link below to read more about it, and you're welcome to join us.  It is a free, online program under the umbrella of the PCRM, Dr. Neal Barnard, and associates.

Also on the March calendar: CHIP.  No, not as in potato or chocolate!

CHIP is the acronym for Coronary Health Improvement Project. This is a 6 - 8 week educational intensive for people to make changes in their diet and exercise plans to reverse - or prevent - heart disease.  It is reversible, you know!

But we must make the choices compatible with reversal to make it happen.  That's what this educational and motivational series is all about.  I'll be presenting at the local CHIP chapter course to shed light on the fitness component, the power of movement, how to keep fitness simple but effective, all that good stuff.  They even want me to teach some Fit Quickies! I'm all over this one, too.

Which reminds me, Fit Quickie #3 is just about ready for release.   Yay!  Trouble in the triceps area?  Help is on the way!

Off to the college to teach a fitness class tonight.  And off to Honduras for some rainforest trekking and scuba on Sunday!  Still much of the week left to connect with my Boot(y) Camp Buddies over at the Love Your Body Boot(y) Camp.  We wrap this Sunday.  Where did the month go?  Sniff, sniff.

Live your body ideal!

Hearts, hugs and stars

P.S.  Registration for "Gams & Glutes...for Summer" is cooking - we're at 30% capacity and registration just started!  Signed up yet?

Failing Forward:

If You Fall Off The Fitness Wagon, Just Get Back On

by Lani Muelrath, M.A.

It's been said that those who succeed are also those who have failed the most.

Think about it.  What does it take to create a successful business, lose and keep excess weight off for 5 years or more, get a career breakthrough movie part, or be an Olympic athlete?

Probably more than one failed business or job attempt, several tries at diet and exercise, multiple rejections from movie producers, and an athletic career littered with  lost races.

What is the difference? What are the tools to keep sharpening so that our failures move us forward?

    * Persistence
    * Tenacity
    * Strong passion for an ideal
    * Discipline
    * Strong belief in self
    * Mastery of the psychology of failure
    * Industriousness
    * Intentness:  Stay the course and go the distance.  Even when you're not "in the mood"
    * Skill
    * Willingness to learn the NEW skills
    * Initiative.  Make a decision!  Failure to act is often the biggest failure of all.

And of course, it helps to have role models for motivation along the way.

Thus the video.
