The rain has come in with full passion here in Northern California.
 
The weather screams SOUP!  And soup is such an easy way to get delicious, high-fiber, full-of-phytonutrients meals.  They are cheap to make, satisfying, and it is easy to engineer them so that your body doesn't find an extra drop of fat to add to your stores;  in fact, that invites you to burn up the ones that you've got.  See today's Feature Article.
 
Besides, as this week we are celebrating my father-in-laws 97th birthday (!) and every day for lunch he goes for "soup and half-a-sandwich" - and has for years - this topic seems timely, to say the least!

Have you had your workout today?  It seems easy to slip into sedentary when the rains hit.  Don't let it happen to you - be proactive with some structured activity time.

Four simple steps to a fat-busting lunch

Right on the heels of the advice to eat lower on the food chain if you want to lower on your body fat stores as well, today's lunch serves as a case in point as to how easy it is to eat satisfying meals.

Meals that feed your body, your soul, and not your fat stores.

My kind of meal. It's the BIG plate trick for staying trim.

By satisfying, I mean:

    * filling
    * delicious
    * costs pennies (cheap!)
    * won't add to your body fat  (in fact, it will actually help deplete them)


Here's how easy this is to throw together.
 
Barley - pea soup

Step One: put barley the rice cooker to cook.  1   1/2 cups barley to 3 cups of water.

Step Two: put yellow split peas in a pot to soak

Step Three:
chop onions and carrots, toss them in with the split peas, bring to boil and turn down to a simmer

Step Four: Add barley to the split peas, carrots, and onions.  Coarsely chop up a bunch of cilantro.  Add some veggie broth, white miso paste, and a twist of sea salt.

There you have it.

BONUS: No need to count calories
 
That's right. When you eat like this, hunger satisfaction can be your guide.  It doesn't get better than that.
 
S-L-O-W  Burn

And the ingredients of this invention also invite a slow, even release of insulin (keeping satiety longer and affecting future meals as well), create some good TEF (thermogenic affect of food), and provide an ideal balance of macronutrients:  protein, carbohydrate, and fat.  Along with all the phyonutrition from the vegetable component.
